Expanding Recovery in 2022

Posted on

With the pandemic still affecting learning, it is our turn to work together to impact recovery.

This year, Horizons National is committed to being a part of a nationwide movement to expand recovery for students: both supporting our Network of 68 program sites in prioritizing academic, social, emotional, and mental recovery, and expanding Horizons to reach even more students and communities.

Experts recognize that out-of-school time programs like Horizons are critical to address student learning loss as a result of the pandemic. Geoffrey Canada, President of Harlem Children's Zone and renowned thought leader and advocate for education reform, recently spoke about the power of this moment during the 2021 National Summer Learning Association Conference.

This year is a critical time to have a positive impact. At Horizons, we're focused on:

  • Growing our Network of programs to reach new students and families
  • Forming long-term partnerships in new communities
  • Piloting new program locations outside our model
  • Enhancing mental health support
  • Engaging out-of-school time experts across the country to ensure our young people feel safe, engaged, and inspired

As we head into a new year, we want to THANK YOU for supporting our mission to advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning. The outcomes of the pandemic on long-term learning are still uncertain, but we are grateful for the many strong partners and friends who believe in our work and have joined us on this journey to support recovery. Our community is growing every day as more people realize the need for out-of-school time learning - and there's never been a better time to join in.
